Gibellina, un paese esemplare”

Gibellina comune di origine araba composto da Gebel (montagna), e Zghir (piccola) “piccola montagna” nel cuore della Valle del Belice è stato proclamato prima Capitale italiana dell’Arte contemporanea 2026. Un risultato importante per il piccolo centro trapanese che nella notte del 15 gennaio 1968 un terremoto di magnitudo 6,4 distrusse le sue abitazioni provocando vittime e rovine. È stato il ministro Alessandro Giuli ad annunciare la vittoria di Gibellina superando i comuni di Carrara, Gallarate, Pescara e Todi. Ed ecco il responso della giuria presieduta da Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo:” Gibellina offre al nostro Paese un progetto organico e solido (di Roberto Albergoni) consegnando all’İtalia di oggi un esemplare modello di intervento culturale fondato su valori e azioni che riconoscono all’arte una funzioni sociale e alla cultura lo statuto di bene comune, per la sua capacità progettuale nel riattivare il suo straordinario patrimonio di opere, coniugando nel presente memoria e futuro conservazione e valorizzazione, attenzione al locale e ambizione internazionale. İl merito di tanta attenzione va attribuito al compianto sindaco-senatore Ludovico Corrado che ebbe l’intuizione di avviare un interessante progetto che coinvolse artisti del calibro di Pietro Consagra con la Porta del Belice, “La Torre Civica” di Alessandro Mengoni, “İ Giardini Segreti”di Francesco Venezia, la scultura in travertino “Città del sole di Mimmo Rotella, “l’aratro di Didone” di Arnaldo Pomodoro, ma soprattutto la genialità di Alberto Burri che realizzò il Grande Cretto, un’opera di memoria e di ricordo, in cui furono fissate le spaccature del cretto ad indicare gli antichi percorsi urbani. E poi le “Orestiadi”: un festival internazionale con manifestazioni teatrali, concerti, mostre di pittura e scultura, cinema e narrativa. Oggi Gibellina Nuova è un grande Museo a cielo aperto. Nella sala Giovanni Spadolini del Ministero della Cultura a gioire del meritato riconoscimento c’erano il sindaco Salvatore Sutera e il presidente della fondazione “Orestiadi” on. Calogero Pumilia.
